The famous couple joined dozens of celebrities who have vocalized their opinions on vaccinating children. The controversial topic is most recently in the spotlight as Senate Bill 276 — a bill aiming to limit medical exemptions from vaccinations — works its way through the California state legislature.

Actress Jessica Biel made headlines for lobbying against the bill. She later clarified that she is “not against vaccinations” but that she supports “families having the right to make educated medical decisions for their children alongside their physicians.”

Bell and Shepard, who share daughters Lincoln, 6, and Delta, 4, support the proposal.
Shepard compares vaccines to car seats

Shepard started the conversation by saying he would have a “hard time” keeping his opinion to himself if someone told him that “their 8-month-old did not need a car seat,” he wrote to Twitter.
“The same hard time I’m having currently with anti-vaxxers,” then adding the hashtags #yourenotapediatrician #measelov.

Some were quick to thank the actor for using his voice to spread the message.
“Imagine being a pediatrician who has seen children injured or die from some of these diseases, and having parents tell you they won’t protect their child with vaccines. It’s gut wrenching,” one commenter posted.

But others criticized the comedian and shared stories of how vaccinations negatively impacted their families.

“Most ‘anti-vaxxers’ aren’t anti-vaccinations. They’re simply pro-choice for the right to choose what happens to their children’s bodies before the children can choose for themselves. They’re also pro-smarter vaccine schedules, accountability for bad reactions and for big pharma,” another commenter wrote.
